Most happy customers are glad to leave a review. They just don’t think of it, or it feels like too much effort. Getting more reviews is less about asking harder and more about making it easy, at the right moment.
01 Why reviews matter
Reviews are one of the first things people read when they find you on Google. They help people choose between you and the business down the street, and they’re a factor in how Google ranks local businesses on the map.
Recent reviews count too. A steady trickle of new reviews tells people you’re active and still doing great work.
02 Start with your review link
Google gives every business a short link that opens the review box directly. No searching, no clicking around. It’s the single biggest thing that makes reviews happen.
03 Habits that work
- Ask at the right moment. Right after a job is finished and the customer is happy, not weeks later.
- Ask in person first. A quick “Would you mind leaving us a review?” goes a long way, then follow up with the link.
- Put the link where people already look. Your email signature, invoices, receipts and your website.
- Reply to every review. A short thank-you shows future customers you care, and it encourages more reviews.
04 What to avoid
Google’s rules are strict about reviews, and breaking them can get reviews removed. Keep it simple:
- Don’t offer discounts, gifts or anything else in exchange for a review.
- Don’t only ask the customers you think will leave five stars. Ask everyone.
- Don’t write reviews for yourself or ask friends and family to post fake ones.
- Don’t argue with negative reviews. Reply calmly and offer to make it right.
A handful of new reviews every month adds up quickly. Make it easy, ask consistently, and your happy customers will do the rest.
