7 signs it’s time to redesign your website

From slow load times to “we don’t send people to the website anymore,” here’s how to tell.

Websites don’t break all at once. They slowly fall behind: a little slower, a little dated, a little harder to update. Here are the signs I see most often when a business is ready for a redesign, even if they haven’t said it out loud yet.

01 The seven signs

1It’s hard to use on a phone. Most visitors are on their phones. If they have to pinch and zoom, they leave.
2It loads slowly. A few extra seconds is enough for people to hit the back button, and Google notices too.
3You avoid sending people to it. If you’d rather hand someone a business card than your web address, that says a lot.
4It doesn’t match your business anymore. New services, new prices or a new look that the site doesn’t reflect.
5You can’t update it yourself. Changing a phone number shouldn’t require a developer and a week of waiting.
6It doesn’t bring in leads. Visitors come, but nobody calls, fills out the form or asks for a quote.
7It’s running on outdated software. Old themes and plugins that can’t be updated are a security risk.
Quick check you can do todayOpen your website on your phone and try to find your phone number and your main service in under ten seconds. If you can’t, neither can your customers.

02 Redesign or refresh?

Not every site needs to start from scratch. If the structure is solid and the site is built on a modern setup, a refresh with new photos, updated copy and cleaner styling can go a long way.

A full redesign makes sense when the site is slow, hard to edit, not mobile-friendly, or simply doesn’t represent who you are today.

03 What a redesign includes

  1. A conversation about your business, your customers and what the site needs to do.
  2. A fresh design and clear page structure, built mobile-first.
  3. Updated content, with your existing pages redirected so you keep your Google rankings.
  4. Training so you can make everyday updates yourself.

If a few of these signs sound familiar, it’s probably time. A good website should be something you’re proud to send people to.
